May The 4th Lego Store Gift: R2-D2 (30611)

R2-D2 (30611) is a $50 purchase gift from Lego Store on May 4th, 2017 at Canada. It has 70pcs, a new brick, and lots of extra good bricks. This set's trick is building the body up-side-down: studs are downward. Interesting.



The poly bag has a small bag for the tiny bricks.



This is a new useful brick. I would buy a lot if Lego Store's Pick-A-Brick wall has it.



It's way easier to build stuff with this brick in the future.

LEGO Star Wars: Yoda's Starfighter (75168) - Lego's Random Design Era

Like what Lego does with Detroit Steel design, Yoda's Starfighter set is another random design. It shows Lego doesn't worry about their quality any more. No matter what, someone like me (Star Wars fans) will buy it.

This model is one of the worst in the recent cheaper sets. If you look at the Hot Wheels model on the right side, you will find Lego's model isn't close to what it should be except the wings.

The front view may be a 48/100 score but let's take a look at other angles.



The designer of this starfighter doesn't even try to make it round.



At the back... R2D2 isn't covered at the back.



It's a bit sad to put it side by side with other two well built Jedi Interceptors.

Basically, Lego sales is too good for this company to slow down and look at their products. Recently, I have 2 sets of Lego having missing/wrong bricks (Lego mailed back to me without question asked. It's a good thing).

My R2-D2 Collection Including Lego Star Wars R2-D2 UCS (10225)

I think I've never done a photo shoot for my R2-D2 UCS set (10225). It was a gift from my wife before this set retired. The structure inside the body was quite amazing. Most of the building time was spent in the inner body structure. The way Lego designer was quite complicated. Surely, consumer would learn a lot from the process.

Although you can't buy this set with a reasonable price now, you can buy the Chinese knockoff versions (Lepin and LeLe) from Aliexpress.
